Letter: A traffic and pollution nightmare

Posted

Each time Golden City Council and the City Planners add a new apartment building or business complex — they add cars to the highway. They also accelerate catastrophic climate destabilization by adding more carbon footprint. They increase the toxic Brown Cloud that lingers over the city 24/7. They increase your intake of those toxic gasses with every breath.

But do they think about the future for your kids? Answer: nope! It’s obvious they care little about Golden’s or Colorado’s future.

Today, Denver metro houses 3.2 million people. Colorado features 5.7 million in 2022. Demographers project Denver to increase to 5.2 million and Colorado to 8.7 million by 2050.

You already know the traffic nightmare in Denver and I-70 in 2022. Can you imagine what another estimated 3,000,000 more cars, trucks, busses, trains, light rail, motorcycles and 18-wheelers will look like within 28 years? Is anyone asking any questions as to what our kids will suffer when these huge numbers of vehicles land on their lives?

How much more poison air can they breathe? What about the stress of bumper-to-bumper traffic beyond anyone’s imagination? Why didn’t Golden City Council enact a “Golden Stop Growth Policy” that would be copied by every city in the state?

Who wants such a future for their kids? Why wouldn’t you want it stopped before it becomes a reality? How will we sustain another 3,000,000 more cars and people in Colorado?Answer: we won’t. It’s going to get nasty.

 Frosty Wooldridge, Golden
