Is it possible to age without pain?

A leading Denver doctor of physical therapy is celebrating hitting a top spot after her latest book became a new, international best seller.

Dr. Brooke Olsen PT, DPT, who specializes in chronic pain, recently released her first publication with contributor Dr. Annie Brodsky PT, DPT. The book is called, “Aging Happily Without Pain.”

“Since so many people are struggling with knee, back or neck/shoulder pain since COVID-19 hit, I wanted to help make a difference in people's lives by writing this book,” Olsen said. “When lockdown happened, I quickly (realized) that we'd have more people struggling in pain, just simply because of routines changing and the closures, which included gyms, pools and classes.”

Olsen is a Washington Park resident who co-owns The Physio Revolution at 1224 S. Acoma St. in Denver's Overland neighborhood. The locally-owned family-style clinic boasts a specialized team of six.

The book is “based upon our own experiences in an accumulation of nearly two decades of helping people in pain get back to doing what they love,” Olsen said, “as well as research, case studies and working closely with other experts in the field from across the world.”

Dedicating one hour each day, it took six months to write the first draft. The end result is a 215-page, nine-chapter publication about helping people aged 50+ make better decisions about their health. It also empowers them to stay active and avoid slowing down even if they've suffered with pain for months or years.

“It's an instruction manual for all pain sufferers on what to do to transform your life from one of inactivity to one full of hope, family outings, walks and hikes in the park, and returning to your old self,” Olsen said, “even as you progress through your second half of life.”

The book has already had a positive impact on chronic pain sufferers all across the world, Olsen said.

“I know this will impact so many who are still struggling today because of the pandemic,” Olsen said. The book will help people “find ways to get back to a life that's more active and worthwhile.”
