As the city continues to try and find ways to offer affordable housing, Denver officials have released a new plan informed by the city’s Housing an Inclusive Denver plan.
The Denver Economic Development & Opportunity office released the Housing Action Plan last month. The public is able to make comments on the draft through Oct. 10, according to a news release from the office.
For more information on the plan, go to https://bit.ly/2kxlzwo. The plan is also available in Spanish. To make comments on the plan, fill out this survey at https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/MN9GG9H. Comments and changes to the plan will be considered by the Housing Advisory Committee this fall.
Housing an Inclusive Denver is a five-year comprehensive housing plan that launched in 2018. The plan outlines 28 different priority strategies, 10 of which have been completed so far, the news release said. Some of those include doubling the Affordable Housing Fund from $15 million to $30 million by adding an additional 2% sales tax to recreational marijuana. The city has also increased the minimum affordability period on rental housing units from 20 to 60 years.
The 2020 Housing Action Plan addresses these points:
Current housing and demographic conditions to drive prioritization of housing resources in 2020;
Overview of 2020 resources available for investment in development, preservation and programs;
Projected investments and outcomes in 2020 based on current pipeline of projects and programs;
Key action items from the Housing an Inclusive Denver plan that the city and its partners will focus on in 2020 to expand the affordable housing toolbox and promote the core goals of the plan; and
The city and its partners’ steps to implement the 2020 Action Plan priorities.
